What’s happening, next steps, finances
- Setback when started, found foundation posts were rotted, immediate built false wall, began new foundation. About $1000 beyond budget, many weeks beyond original time frame estimate.
- North wall, front wall half foundation done, now half of front, west side and back side to go – pouring tomorrow
- Doing it by hand to keep costs down.
- So much help from locals! Including Glen Bonderud, Ian Wright, Nigel – lead on foundation, Vern Lillies, Jim Hawke, Dave Davies, Gary ?, Ryan Lee, Ron Seymour - we're keeping a list for the thank yous!
- Trench dug, pipe in, Bob Fielding, Glen Vincent donated backhoe time, grinder tank is in the hole and starting to be hooked up.
- Chuck Jones donating time on plumbing and wiring
- John Envoldson donating time for engineering/approvals
- George Fulton came by and got rid of the old oil tank
- Ripped out old washrooms out back and took rickety old porch off
- Footings in walls in, tank in the hole, two washrooms roughed in and plumbed.
- Two handicap access toilets ready to be delivered (received through SCRD replacement program)
- Walls need to come off the annex – metal roof (donated by Cliff Rowlands) will be put on that part
- We have funding for plumbing and heat, with $2000 grant from SC community foundation will be able to finish washrooms
- We have enough people to do roof/attic – need to get vermiculite out, strengthen rafters to get sag out of the roof – time & volunteers needed
To-do list:
- We are focusing on the outside to keep grounds clean and show that it’s not abandoned
- Add the PHLHS banner to show it's our project
- Rotary may take on a project, e.g. Windows or wheelchair ramp
- Main roof – going to go with cedar shingles to maintain heritage character
- Doing the foundation has taken up a lot of time and resources. Once foundation is done, work will progress much faster. (Nigel will lead a team and Len will lead a team.)
